Gulf Rd. Search Detail

On Thursday, January 8, 2009 Fuller Hose was dispatched to assist the PSP with a search for a lost hunter in the area of Gulf Road and Hopkins Road. Initial reports from the dispatch center stated there was a 19 year old male hunter lost near 20 Mile Creek some where between Gulf Road and Irish Road (New York).  Chief 200 and 210 arrived on scene requesting any available snowmobiles or four wheelers to the scene as well as Harborcreek Fire Dept for Rescue 228 and the mule. Due to the location of the hunter being unknown Chief 200 also requested units from New York to assist with the search.  As crews arrived they were assigned a radio, EMS gear and an area to search.  Reports from the 911 center stated they had cell phone contact with the hunter and were trying to get GPS coordinates to narrow the search.  The dispatch center also started a United States Coast Guard Helicopter to the scene which was equipped with a rescue basket and a TIC.  Once the GPS coordinates from the lost hunters cell phone were traced Crews from the Ripley Hose Co. were able to locate the hunter off Sidehill Rd in Ripley NY unharmed and walked out under his own power and the USCG Helicopter was placed in service.  Chief 200 had the Gulf Rd command.  The N.E.F.D was assisted by Harborcreek VFD, Ripley, South Ripley, Fairfield and Westfield Fire Depts.
