1st snowfall of the year keeps the “East Side Express” busy

On Tuesday November 6,2007 snow began to fall around 6:30 am in the western and southern part of Erie County. As the snow moved East into the North East Fuller Hose began to get busy.  The 1st of 5 runs for Engine 204 came in around 08:45 for a report of tree’s and wires down on Rt. 426 in the area of Oxbow Rd. Engine 204 arrived to find a power line down across the roadway and requested Penelec to the scene. Due to the wide spread power outages from this storm an eta of over 2 hrs was given. The Engine crew requested the Township to bring traffic cones to the scene to block road.  After the township arrived on scene and blocked the road, the Engine returned.  The next call came in around 11:45 am for an assist to Greenfield VFD (ST.70) for a structure fire.  Fuller Hose was originally dispatched for Tanker 206 to assist, but Chief 710 arrived on scene reporting a working fire and Engine 204 to the scene. Due to members still being at the fire house Tanker 206 had a quick response time.  Tanker 206 was the 1st piece of apparatus to arrive on scene and took the address per command. Crescent Engine 212 and Kuhl Hose Engine 683 arrived next and pulled 2 – 1 ¾” line from the tanker and made the attack.  Engine 204 arrived soon after and assisted with suppression and over haul operations. About 20 minutes after returning from the Structure Fire Engine 204 was back on the move to Pershing Ave for a reported tree into a house.  The Engine arrived on scene to find a large Oak tree into the front of a 2 story house with minor damage to the house.   The 4th run of the day came in around 3:15pm for a MVA on I-90 @ mm40. Engine 204 arrived to find one vehicle off the road with no injuries.  Due to the road conditions on I-90 the Engine had all other units’ stage off I-90.  The 5th and final run for the day was another MVA in the 11900 blk. of East Lake Rd.  Fuller L-6 arrived on scene to find 1 vehicle on its side with minor injuries and had Crescent Rescue 208 continue and placed Fuller’s in service. Some Departments in the Southern part of Erie County ran 20 + calls today.   Today is another example of why we call Engine 204 the “East Side Express”!
