The North East Fire Department along with an Emergycare Paramedics were dispatched to a reported structure fire on Poplar Street in the Borough of North East around 4 am Thursday Morning. Chief 200 arrived on Scene and reported a 2 ½ story residential home with heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear of the structure. Fuller Hose Engine 202 arrived on scene shortly after and put two 1 ¾” attack lines into service.

The first crew went to the rear of the structure with the 2nd crew entering the structure from the front door. Both crews encountered heavy fire conditions due to the age of the house being over 120 years old, with balloon style construction. Engine 204 from Fuller Hose arrived and took over 2nd due Engine company assignment and laid 5” LDH from the hydrant to secure Eng. 202’s water supply, Ladder 209 from Crescent Hose arrived and began Laddering and Ventilating the structure.

All crews worked for an extended time with salvage and over hall. Harbor Creek Engine Tanker 225 was special called for their Thermal Imaging Camera Due to the NEFD’ s camera being O.O.S. Command released all units to service just before day break. The fire is being investigated at this time. Other North East units on scene where Fuller Hose Engine 203, Utility 219 and Crescent Hose Ambulance 217 doing rehab. Fairfield Engine 263 handled the transfer to Fuller Hose for the duration of the incident. The Fire displaced a family of 4 just before the holidays.
